We owe an enormous debt of gratitude to every and coalition servicemember who served in Afghanistan, and we will never forget the 2,488 servicemembers who gave their lives there. We also remember the over 100,000 Afghan civilians who have been killed in this war.

@CenasDaFaba Indeed, that’s one of my main worries. But to say nothing was achieved is over pessimistic (and I’ve been doom mongering about this withdrawal for a while now, so I should know!). 20 years isn’t nothing. As the Afghan woman I quoted said, there’ve been concrete achievements.

@rezaaslan I’m so disappointed I ever thought you were different. You and your “afghan writers” are trash.

Very pleased to meet with President @AshrafGhani today in Kabul. We look forward to working together toward an Afghan future that is peaceful and prosperous. The United States remains committed to Afghanistan and its people.
@stuart_nimmo @DAaronovitch There were Afghan refugees since 1979 at least, and massive numbers of them. They went, mostly, where they could go. This never, actually, stopped. Destinations changed, not the fact that there were refugees created on a rolling basis. 👇
#LaPoliceTue

@mon_lovesyou @tony_magoni He messed up the ending. He really ripped off a lot of Afghan & Persian mythology in
@alexwlchan I mean, I’ve crocheted things on the train, but anything with more than one colour doesn’t travel well (is this how I’m going to end up working on mum’s single-colour Afghan while still in the midst of my main project? Sigh, probably)
