Anyone who thinks that was a red card has never played rugby. If steward didn’t pull out it would have been much worse for Keenan. Yellow at worse. A forward pass, bouncing ball and split second decision which steward did the right thing and pulled out. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️.
Would love to ask the referee and the media pundits who said it was a red card, the simple question. With Keenan off balance and running right at him, what was Freddie Steward meant to do to avoid that collision?.

Re Steward - I don’t think it would have changed the result and yes ideally, he makes a soak tackle - but imo mistake refs made was the no mitigation call. With that forward pass bounce, Keenan so low and off balance, and a millisecond to react - I feel like there was mitigation..

@FogartyJack If he goes for the ball or the tackle; you can say “fair enough”. But it’s neither. He was probably trying to block Keenan, and gets it all wrong.

@edujones14 @willcarling There was nothing he could do to avoid Keenan running into him. They were both going for a loose ball, but the Irish man got there marginally ahead and the collision was a fraction of a second later. Despite the red card protocols, physics is still a constraint..

@willcarling Ask Scotty to beam him up? He was not tackling after ball to ground (forward) but evading and instinctively turned to protect self. Entirely natural reaction to big bloke crashing into you - if Keenan’s head was heading towards your unprotected body would you just stand there..

@rob_james_s @RugbyPass He didn’t get up from a ruck though - he ran forward, saw the ball spilled, braced for impact by turning his shoulder, hitting Keenan in the upper shoulder/lower head. Nothing Peyper could do out her than red, as harsh as it may seem - laws are pretty clear..
