Imagine this same ‘American Boy’ headline with someone who looked like Trayvon talking about what it’s like to have your mother sit you down to tell you how to stay alive in your own city during Black History Month. Just imagine. Shame on you, @esquire..

This Esquire cover. And during #’all. Among other things, this is why it’s important to have Black journalists and editors making decisions..

oh god. one thing that jumped out at me in that Esquire piece is the teacher using the subject of gay people to teach debate. this happened in my high school too and as a closeted gay person all it did was show me how many people hated me.

What in the AF is this foolishness? I can only assume that the publisher of @esquire is good friend of that dope 45 and all his white-hooded pals..

Why would Esquire bother hunting for a white American boy to ask for the opinions of when they could just read literally any Twitter thread, Reddit post or comment section about feminism or civil rights?.

@esquire @JenPercy When is your cover with a queer black teenage girl from a disadvantaged background coming out?.

Esquire US has always been trash tho. god i remember the sheer nepotism they would have with their interns. they would be deadass HIGHSCHOOLERS and theyre like oh yea my dad is friends with CEO of esquire so thats how i got the internship & they didnt do shyttt..

This is pathetic @esquire. Continue amplifying the white, male voice and narrative that has always been privileged in this country. DO BETTER..

I read both. Wonder if you can even comprehend how boneheaded, misogynistic, and ridiculous this is..

Esquire proposes a series of these stories will be coming on kids belonging to different groups (varying in race, gender, religion and sexual orientation) but I can’t think how much more of a statement it would have been to lead w/another archetype rather than a young white male..

Did we really need an article about what a white male has to go through? @esquire I guess the Trayvon Martins of United States would have been too much to deal with..

at last, an issue of Esquire for people who call themselves boy moms and worry that MeToo has just gone too far.

@MikeDrucker The people at @esquire had to know this response would be coming. I wonder just how calculated this cover story was meant to be..

Soooo the Esquire cover is forreal? It’s not like an internet joke? It’s a real cover and article???.

And @esquire thought this was a good idea,,,why? How sad are we for his white boy privilege? Read this white boy historical account.

@esquire @JayFielden Not only is the concept of this series insulting, but the article is poorly written about an abusive white boy with an enabling mother & father..

If the editors at @esquire truly fear they may slip up in conversation and accidentally reveal beliefs that would be harmful to others, maybe they should do the internal work to grow as people instead of blaming those asking us to all do better in how we communicate..

Dear Esquire, Running this during BHM is stupid, but what’s worse is you chose a kid that could be the villain in every Lifetime movie about rape or sexual assault EVER. Seriously, he’s totally Zachary Ty Bryan-ing this.

Ahem, Esquire we all know what white men are around they’re running everything thing duh.

Today’s bad Esquire story is by the same writer who somehow didn’t talk to Mike Newall for the NYT’s Kensington helicopter-in piece last year. Cool, cool..

Esquire dropping this ode to white male privilege that no one asked during Black History month is ugh..

maybe instead of radicalizing white mediocrity for the clicks esquire could dedicate its otherwise very talented team to reporting on, idk, literally anything !!!!!!.
